GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY USING WIND ENERGY


GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY FROM WIND:-
THE MOST COMMON MECHANISM USED FOR GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY IS WIND MILLS.
CONSTRUCTION:-
IN THE WIND MILL THERE ARE THREE PARTS TOWER, TURBINE AND NACELLE.
TOWER: - THE TOWER IS GENERALLY MADE UP OF STEEL HOLLOW PIPES. IT IS ERECTED OVER THE GROUND VERTICALLY UP TO A HEIGHT OF ABOUT HUNDRED METERS. THE UPPER PART OF THE TOWER OPPOSITE TO THE GROUND HOLDS THE TURBINE AND NACELLE.
NACELLE: - THE NACELLE IS THE MAIN PART OF THE WIND MILL WHERE THE MECHANISM OF CONVERTING THE MECHANICAL ENERGY TO ELECTRIC ENERGY LIES. INSIDE IT THE COMBINATION OF GEARS, HIGH SPEED AND LOW SPEED SHAFT AND A GENERATOR IS PRESENT. THE NACELLE IS PRESENT JUST BEHIND THE TURBINE BLADES.
TURBINE:-THE TURBINE OF THE WIND MILLS CONSISTS OF THREE BLADES EACH WITH A SPAN OF ABOUT TWENTY METERS FROM THE CENTER. THE DESIGNS OF THE TURBINE BLADES ARE LIKE THE WELLS TURBINES DESIGN. THIS HELPS THE BLADE TO MOVE IN A SINGLE DIRECTION.
WORKING:-WHEN THE AIR FLOWS THROUGH THE TURBINE BLADES ITS MAKES THE TURBINE BLADES TO ROTATE. THE DESIGN OF THE TURBINE IS SUCH THAT IT ALWAYS MAKES THE TURBINE BLADES TO MOVE IN A SINGLE DIRECTION. BY THIS THE SHAFT ATTACHED TO THE CENTER OF THE TURBINE ALSO STARTS MOVING. THIS SHAFT SPEED GETS INCREASED BY THE GEAR COMBINATION IN THE NACELLE THEN ANOTHER SHAFT CONNECTED TO THE GEAR BOX STARTS ROTATING IN A HIGH SPEED INSIDE THE METALLIC CORE OR THE GENERATOR THUS AN EMF IS PRODUCED IN THE CORE WHICH STARTS THE FLOW OF CURRENT.THUS ELECTRICITY IS GENERATED.
